One of the closest matches in recent years emerged in a narrow victory for the OMs. After a long and hard fought battle with all three weapons, it ended in Foil 8-1, Epee 5-4, Sabre 4-5.

The ever hospitable Peter Keighley employed his usual diversionary tactic to secure a headstart by supplying the OMs with copious amounts of Common Room wine at lunch. Furthermore he scheduled the match on a day when most of the OM squad were attending the wedding of one of our strongest fencers.

Nonetheless, the patience and experience of the OMs overcame the undoubted enthusiasm, speed and skill of the College team, whose strongest fencers are still only in the Hundreds.
