September 2010 OM Beaglers

During the course of the year over 100 letters were sent to OM beaglers, inviting them to become involved with the activities of the Palmer Marlborough Beagles. The response was most encouraging and it was good to welcome several past Masters and whips to the annual College meet in March. The new season starts in mid-September so anyone wishing to receive information about the activites of the beagles should email Sean Dempster at hmc3@marlborougcollege.org

2009/10 Season  Palmer Marlborough Beagles

We have lost contact with many of the OMs who used to be involved with beagling, and we would like to invite them to resume their association with the pack and join in its activities.

In May 2005, Mike Osman, the longstanding kennel huntsman, retired and the number of students who were genuinely interested in beagling dropped to just two or three. The decision was taken to move the pack from the College to Conholt Park in Hampshire and it was re-named the Marlborough and District Beagles. In 2006/2007 the pack was hunted by Andrew Bozdan but, in a much disrupted season, we only got out about three times.

In 2007, we merged with the Palmer Milburn to become the Palmer Marlborough Beagles (PMB) and the hounds are now in brand new kennels near Hungerford. The Joint Masters are Max Rumney, Patrick Wild and Trevor Gore. The kennel huntsman is David Gaylard.

The 2008/2009 and 2009/10 seasons have been extremely successful with interest from the pupils blossoming and a number of students helping to whip-in. I take about fifteen boys and girls to the meets every Tuesday and, as usual, the farmers and landowners have been extremely generous in letting us cross their land and providing tremendous teas afterwards.

The College is most supportive of the Palmer Marlborough Beagles. It pays a large subscription and there is a meet in Court once a year.

Any Old Marlburian wishing to receive information about meets and other activities should email me at hmc3@marlboroughcollege.org or drop me a line at the College.
