Nicko Williamson set up London-based eco-taxi company Climatecars in 2007.

Climatecars is all about delivering a great service with the lowest possible impact on the environment. Open 24 hours a day, 365 day a year, Climatecars offers response times of around 20 minutes in Central London. The company has over 450 account holders ranging from large investment banks to small firms.

The idea for a green taxi firm came when Nicko Williamson was driving past an LPG/gas conversion garage near Bath. He felt he could make some real changes to the taxi industry by using modern, low emission technology.

Using the Toyota Prius hybrid, which runs on petrol and electricity, Climatecars emissions are less than half that of a normal London black taxi. These cars are ideal for London, as due to dense traffic, they are often running solely on batteries at under 30 mph. There are no downsides. The cars don't need to be charged - the engine and the brakes recharge the battery so longer journeys, for example London to Birmingham, are not a problem.

Climatecars offers a better service than its competitors: smart vehicles with leather seats, Belu Mineral water for all passengers and a copy of the day's newspaper. All taxis are on a car wash scheme and are immaculate inside and out.

Climatecars rates are very competitive. Journeys are priced by mileage, not meters, so what you are quoted is what you will pay. The way they price is beneficial for London, where traffic often means sitting in a black cab watching the meter climb in price with terror!

Nicko says, "We have been going for almost 3 years now and have raised 2 rounds of equity funding. We are very well financed and profitable. My vision for Climatecars is to become a market leader in the taxi /private hire market in London then look further afield, perhaps taking Climatecars to other UK cities - even Europe and the rest of the world. For the moment I am focused on growing in London and ensuring our service is the best."
