We heard recently that David James Warre Rathbone (CO 1962-66) has died.

D L Woollcombe  (LI 1946-50)  

David Louis Woollcombe (LI 1946-50) died in 2010.                                                

A H Lister  (SU 1961-66)  Wulk

Dr Arthur Hugh Lister (SU 1961-66) died on 9th July 2010.

W Z Lloyd  (B2 1929-34)  Wulk

William Zachary Lloyd (B2 1929-34) died on 12 August 2010.

R J Spurling  (B3 1982-87)     

Rupert John Spurling (B3 1982-87) died suddenly on 19 June 2010. Rupert, son of Andrew Spurling (B3 1952-56) and brother of Martin (B3 1979-1984) died suddenly on 19 June 2010 leaving a widow, Sue, and a son and daughter. Richard Handyside (B3 1982-87) and Jason Nomikos (BH 1982-87 ) helped carry the coffin. Jason came from Moscow and Tim Kirkwood (TU 1982-87) from New York, a mark of what close and lasting friendships they made at Marlborough. Messages to his family have reflected the enormous effect his kindness, thoughtfulness and enjoyment of life had on others. He and his wife Sue ran B1Creative, a graphic design company.

James Richard Macfarlane (CO 1952-57) died in April 2010

P D C Davis  (B1 1938-42)  

In July 2010, we learnt that Patrick David Channer Davis had died in January 2010

D G Marriott  (B2 1940-44)  

In July 2010, we learnt that David Giles Marriott had died in January 2009

D T W Gibson  (B2 1931-35)  

We learnt in July, that David Travers Worsley Gibson (B2 1931-35) died on 28 October 2009

I E S Aspinall  (CO 1940-43)  

Ian Edward Shaw Aspinall, died in July 2010.

W J Pinney  (PR 1945-50)  

William James Pinney, Major 11th Hussars, died peacefully on 18 July 2010. Much loved husband of Essex and father of Hugh.

C W Godfrey  (B2 1942-47)  

Charles Woide Godfrey (B2 1942-47) died on 18 June 2010

P C Houlder  (TU 1975-79)  

We are very saddened to hear of the sudden death of Peter Houlder (TU 1975-79) on 11 January 2010.

R Jowett  (B1 1929-35)  

Richard Jowett (CR 1992-2004) died on 4 July 2010

J R A Young  (C2 1941-46)  

John Robert Alexander Young (C2 1941-46) died on 21 June 2010. John was very involved in the Zimbabwe tobacco industry and agriculture for many years. He was married to Jo and was grandfather to 3 OMs.

Donald George Stanley Upton (B1 1929-35) died on 13 May 2009

John Thompson  (CR 1946-88)  

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Thompson (CR 1946-88) who was a former House Master of C3 and Preshute, and Marlburian Club Secretary (1979-89). Peter Bradley  (C2 1928-32)  

Major-General Peter Edward Moore Bradley, CB, CBE, DSO, (C2 1928-32) Signal Officer-in-Chief (Army) 1965-57 and Master of Signals 1970-82 was born on 12 December, 1914 and died on 2 June 2010.

David Westby  (PR 1987-92)  

David Westby tragically died in May.

Nigel Davidson  (C3 1926-30)  

Nigel George Rupert Davidson (C3 1926-30) died on 12 May 2010. We were gratified to hear from his widow, Monique Davidson who let us know that 'Nigel was very proud to have been educated at Marlborough College and had good memories of the time he had pased there.'

St J M V Birt  (B3 1929-33)  

We have recently learnt that St John Michael Clive Birt (B3 1029-33) died on 18 August 2009.

W S Wynne Willson  (C3 1945-50)  

Dr William Salisbury Wynne Willson died in May 2010

A S Douglas  (B3 1935-38)  

Professor Alexander Shafto Douglas, CBE died on Thursday 29 April 2010 very peacefully.

P N Awdry  (N2 1947-51)  

Philip Neville Awdry (B2 1947-51), MB, BChir, DO, FRCS, a distinguished Moorfields and Oxford eye surgeon, died on 1 May 2010

G P V Creagh  (LI 1941-45)  

Giles Peter Vandeleur Creag (LI 1941-45) died on Sunday 25 April 2010.

L H Waddy  (B1 1927-33)  

The Rev Canon Lawrence Heber Waddy (B1 1927-33), former Headmaster of Tonbridge School, died on 26 March 2010.

R Mackay

 (LI 1931-36)  

Ronald Mackay (LI 1931-36) died on 26 April 2010. Both his brothers, Iver (LI 1918-22) and Gordon (LI 1924-30), attended Marlborough as did Iver's son Iver (1954-58), his own son Robin (LI 1962-66) and his grandson Gavin Hooper (BH 1987-92). Ronald was married to Phyllida Soutar for over 50 years. He had a successful career as Managing Director of J F Renshaw & Son until his retirement in 1979. Following the death of his wife, he moved to Clevedon near Somerset and died peacefully in the Bristol Royal Infrmary. He leave two children, Fiona and Robin, 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Michael Gilbertson  (CO 1929-34)  

Michael Henry Marshall Gilbertson (CO 1929-34) died on 22 April 2010. 'He was blessed with good health throughout his long life and died peacefully after a short illness,' his son, John Gilbertson wrote to us.

J E K Rae  (LI 1933-37)  

Major Keith Rae, whose obituary appears in the Telegraph 15 May, died on 27 March 2010

P C Bridges  (B1 1937-42)  

Peter Bridges, MBE died in March 2010.

J W Hunt   (C3 1950-53)  

We recently learnt of the death of Johnny William Hunt (C3 1950-53) who died in June 2009. Read the short tribute by John Anderson (C3 1949-54).

J R F Boger  (B3 1938-42)  

John Reginald Frederick Boger (B3 1938-42) died on 12 April 2010.

L E Sutcliffe  (C1 1948-52)  

Lawrence Ellis Sutcliffe died on Tuesday 30 March, while on holiday in Bali. He was a significant figure in the buinsess, commercial and social life of Kenya, where he was born, and where he worked and lived all his life apart from his attendance at Marlborough College.

R N Kingzett  (PR 1934-40)  

Richard (Dick) Norman Kingzett (PR 1934-40) died aged 88 on 2 March 2010. He was a director of the Bond Street picture dealers, Thomas Agnew & Sons from 1955, and a foremost authority on the works of the 18th century town and seascape painter Samuel Scott.

M D H Webb-Bowen  (B3 1936-40)  

Michael Donald Harold Webb-Bowen (B3 1936-1940) passed away 29 February 2010 in his 85th year, after a short battle with cancer. Son of a Vicar, WWII Rifleman and Officer who served in North Africa and Cassino, he later became a car dealer dealing with top Marques/racing cars. He leaves three Daughters and six grandchildren. A very well liked gentleman.

Robert Arthur David Shutes (LI 1941-45) died on 20 February 2010.

Robert Tasker Paice (C3 1935-39) died on 18 February 2010.

W H Rose  (C1 1953-57)  

Henry Rose (C1 1953-57) died on 13 February 2010.

C J V Davies  (B1 1943-46)  

Christopher John Vidal Davies (B1 1943-46) died on 13 February 2010.

A F Elliott  (CR 1954-74)  

Alan Elliott (CR 1954-74) who taught Classics at Marlborough, died on 21 January 2010. Tributes by Colin Goldsmith (CR 1955-91)and from Paul Thompson former pupil at King Henry VIII school in Abergavenny.

John Wilfred Barratt Hext, TB, MBE (CO 1929-33) died on 7 January 2010.
