Terence Cooper (CO 1924-27) died on 24 November 2009.

Richard Dorrien Taylor (CO 1933-37) died on 19 October 2009. He was a fine sportsman, representing teams in cricket, football, rugby, golf, tennis and rackets. In 1939 he went to Oxford to read Geography and later flew Spitfires and Hurricanes during the war.

David Shone (LI 1939-44) former President of the Club (1988-89) died on 22nd November 2009. A Memorial Service was held at St. John's Church, Wimborne on 4th December. He is survived by his wife, Sally, and three children Alex, Nelly and James.

Cmdr Michael Hugh Evans Gregson died on 9th October 2009.

Anthony Mark Barrington Golding (CO 1942-46) died on 9 October 2009.

Michael William Burnside Airy (CO 1944-48) died on Saturday 24 October 2009. He was a Civil Engineer who specialised in water and for many years held a pilot's licence and flew around Kenya to do his work. He was also a motor enthusiast and spent many hours renovating an ancient Rolls Royce, which, sadly, he never managed to get on the road. He is survived by four daughters.

John Ernest Hancock passed away peacefully on 19 September, aged 82 in Javea, Spain and formerly of Oxfordshire. Much loved husband of Ann, father of Christopher, Michael and Philippa and sadly missed grandfather. Quiet family cremation in Spain.

Geoff was Captain of the OMGS in 1991, a Hewitt player in the 1960s and occasional Darwin and senior Darwin team member in the 1970s and 1980s. Gordon Gray Dean (CO 1933-38) died on 30th August 2009. After Clare College, Cambridge he taught at  Northampton School for Boys for 30 years and then in two local prep schools. He was still listening to youngsters reading at the local primary school until a year before he died. His mind was still as clear as ever in his 89th year.

John Edward Bashall (B1 1941-45), husband of the late Alison Bashall, beloved father of Martin, Suzanne, Nicholas and Timothy and grandfather of 10 grandchildren, died peacefully at home in Cape Town, South Africa on 7 June 2009, aged 81.

Professor David Cornelius Morley (C2 1937-41) died on 2nd July 2009. Despite dyslexia, Professor Morley became a world-reknowned paediatrician and innovator in tropical child health. Click in Telegraph Obituary to read more. Obituary also in 2009 Magazine.

Thomas Edward Roland Torrance (C2 1937-41) died, aged 85, on 7 June 2009. After studying engineering at Clare College, Cambridge, he joined the Army and served in India with the REME for the duration of the war. He worked for Stothart and Pitt in Bath thereafter, designing dockside cranes and becoming Managing Director of the Crane Divison and ultimately Group Technical Director before retiring in 1985. He was awarded an OBE in 1976 for services to the Crane Industry.

Charles Cameron Gough (B1 1936-41), known as Cameron, father of Andy Gough (C1 1989-94), sadly passed away on Thursday, 28 May 2009.

Charles Walford (C3 1958-62), brother of Tom Walford (C3 1963-66), and son of Lt Col H F Walford (C3 1924-29), died on 20 May 2009.

Gerald Frederic Wigram (B3 1930-35) died on 17 May 2009, aged 92.

Dr Stanley Hewitt (B1 1931-36), former Consultant Obstretrician/Gynaecologist in Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe, Ireland and Past Chairman for the Institute of Obstretricians and Gynaecologists died in his home on 16 May 2009.

Roger Tyndale Cooper (B1 1925-29) died on 10 May 2009 aged 98.

Ed Cakebread (PR 1998-2003) was tragically killed in the Alps while skiing in April 2009. He was a founding member of the Malones, and was extremely energetic in spreading the word about the Club and ensuring events ran smoothly. He was particularly active in helping to organise the 2006 Memorial Dinner held at the East India Club, being one of the first to arrive at the bar and the last to leave the next morning for the 6:00 am train home from Paddington. Masterly under a high ball and with a sidestep which was impossible to predict, he made great contributions to all his school teams and the Malones, and will be deeply missed.

Tim Abell (C3 1943-48), former President of the Marlburian Club and Council Member sadly died on 9th March 2009. He played Hockey for Oxford and England and had been Deputy Chairman of Baring Investment Management. Simon Waterlow (CO 1955-59) died on 27 February 2009 in Franklin, Tennessee. After Marlborough, Simon went to Trinity College, Cambridge after which he went into publishing. He came to Tennessee in 1987 with Ideals Publications, where he became owner and CEO. In retirement he started Tantallon Pres which printed old and out-of-print books and first editions. He is survived by his wife Jane, daughter, Caroline and his brothers, Gerard (LI 1953-57) and John (CO 1959-63).

Edwin Stanley Ransom Warwick (C2 1941-45) died on 28 February 2008. He had been greatly enjoying retired life in Chester following a career in shipping that took him from London to East Africa, West Indies and finally Liverpool. He is survived by his wife Marjorie and two children, Hugh (C2 1980-84) and Tessa.

Michael Gliksten (PR 1951-55) died in February 2009. He set up the Granham Casuals in 1952 and went on to be a Director, and finally Chairman, of Charlton Athletic.

Lt Col M J G (John) Martin MBE of Durweston died suddenly at home on Friday 2 January 2009.  He bore his ill health with tremendous courage, humour and zest for life. His  Funeral Service was held at 11 a.m. on Friday 16th January 2009 at Saint Nicholas's Church, Durweston, Blandford Forum, Dorset

David Woodhouse (LI 1974-79) died suddenly on New Years Day 2009. He was Managing Director of Hall and Woodhouse brewers since 1998. With his cousin Mark, he was the fifth generation of the Woodhouse family to be employed in the business. Last year he completed 25 years service with the company having joined the board in 1990. His obituary was published in the Wiltshire Gazette on 7 January.

Lieutenant-Colonel Eric Wilson, who gained a Victoria Cross for manning his machine gun against overwhelming odds, died on 23 December 2008.

Robin Aston Barnes (B2 1944-49) died in Australia on 16 December 2008 in Turramurra, New South Wales, aged 78. Beloved husband of Rosanne, father of Paul, Guy and Annabel, grandfather of James and Sophie, Jemima, Thomas and Joslin, brother of Judith. Cremation took place on 19th December 2008.

Mark Bennett (C3 1973-78) died on Saturday 13 December 2008 in his house next door to the Sun Inn, Marlborough. He had been very ill with cancer and caught pneumonia, which his system could not fight off. He bore his illness very bravely and was a familiar figure around the College as he had been the First XI Scorer for many years and had most kindly donated the new Electric Score Board on the Cricket XI. "Ian Neville Dixon (LI 1939-43) died on 3 December 2008. He joined the army in 1943 with fellow OMs Michael Barnes-Gorell and John A Briscoe, who were also in Littlefield (1939-43). He served with Michael Barnes-Gorell in Greece and returned home in 1946 on a Class 'D' release and went to Oxford. He then went on to run a small textile business in Manchester for the rest of his working life."

Neil Trafford (C2 1991-93) was sadly killed in a road traffic accident on 23 November 2008.

Colin Beaumont-Edmonds (CO 1936-40), who died aged 85 on 10th October 2008, was President for 18 years of St Dunstan's, the charity for blind ex-servicemen and women, after being totally blinded himself by a shell splinter during the North African campaign. David Summerhayes, a former diplomat involved in Namibia's independence, died on Wednesday, 12th November 2008

Ian Albert Clarke Kinnear (B3 1938-42) (known as Tim) died on 19th November 2008. Tim Kinnear was Deputy Governor of Bermuda when Sir Richard Sharples, then Governor, was murdered. He was immediately appointed Acting Covernor until a permenent replacement was appointed and he received a CMG for his handling of the affair.

Andrew Michael Pearson died on 22 October 2008. The church was packed for his funeral (over 300 attended). Quoted to sum up the tributes to him was the following: "His full nature spent itself in channels which had no great name on the earth. But the effect of his being on those around him was incalculably diffusive; for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts.’" from Middlemarch, George Eliot.

Brian Tisdall died on 9th October 2008.

Tony Hobbs, a stalwart of the Old Marlburian Golfing Society for more than half a century, died last Tuesday. His funeral will be held at Worplesdon Parish Church on Friday 31st October at 11:15am. Any OMGS Members are invited to wear the OMGS tie.

Major (Ret'd) Duncan Bengough (C3 1946-50) late of The Black Watch (R.H.R) died on 16th September 2008. A tribute will be posted shortly.

Edna Halliday, the widow of Jack Halliday, died on Monday 6 October. Jack was House Master of  B2 between 1956-71. Her funeral was held on Monday 13th October at 12:30pm, at Preshute Church.

James Faulkner Child, MBE, ERD died on 11 September 2008 aged 94. He came from a long line of Old Marlburians and his father, W Noel Child and many uncles and cousins also attended. He sent both his sons, Timothy (B1 1955-59) and John (B1 1963-67) to Marlborough.

Paul Martin Bacon died on 21 May 2008 after a short illnes. After marrying in 1957, he spent the next 35 years abroad in West Africa, Europe and the Middle East before his final assignment in West Africa in 1989.

Dr Thomas Cocke, architectural historian who made a significant contribution to the preservation of Britain's ecclesiastical heritage, died on 23 April 2008, aged just 59.
