He was a Civil Engineer who specialised in water and for many years held a pilot's licence and flew around Kenya to do his work. He was also a motor enthusiast and spent many hours renovating an ancient Rolls Royce, which, sadly, he never managed to get on the road. He is survived by four daughters. |

Thomas Edward Roland Torrance (C2 1937-41) died, aged 85, on 7 June 2009. After studying engineering at Clare College, Cambridge, he joined the Army and served in India with the REME for the duration of the war. He worked for Stothart and Pitt in Bath thereafter, designing dockside cranes and becoming Managing Director of the Crane Divison and ultimately Group Technical Director before retiring in 1985. He was awarded an OBE in 1976 for services to the Crane Industry. |

Ed Cakebread (PR 1998-2003) was tragically killed in the Alps while skiing in April 2009. He was a founding member of the Malones, and was extremely energetic in spreading the word about the Club and ensuring events ran smoothly. He was particularly active in helping to organise the 2006 Memorial Dinner held at the East India Club, being one of the first to arrive at the bar and the last to leave the next morning for the 6:00 am train home from Paddington. Masterly under a high ball and with a sidestep which was impossible to predict, he made great contributions to all his school teams and the Malones, and will be deeply missed. |

He had been very ill with cancer and caught pneumonia, which his system could not fight off. He bore his illness very bravely and was a familiar figure around the College as he had been the First XI Scorer for many years and had most kindly donated the new Electric Score Board on the Cricket XI. He then went on to run a small textile business in Manchester for the rest of his working life." |

A keen supporter of the Marlburian Club, he is survived by his sons George (C2 1965-69) and Christopher (B3 1971-75), daughter Mary-Rose and six grandchildren. His funeral will be held on 4th August at 2:00pm at All Saint's Church, Durrington near Amesbury. |
