Educated at Liverpool College and Kitchener Scholar at Bede College Durham University. President of the Union. Pembroke College, Oxford - Oxford Union Debating Team.

Appointed to Marlborough College 1968 and taught English and History. Master i/c Debating & Political Societies. OC Marlborough CCF RN Section. Awarded CCF Medal. Housemaster: A2 House 1977-82 and then C1 House 1982-1994. Prep School Liaison Officer 1994-2001. President of Common Room 1995-2000. Secretary of Marlburian Club from 2001 in succession to John Uzielli.

Member of MCC; Royal Birkdale Club, Marlborough Golf Club, Ogbourne Downs Golf Club.
