Football

Master in Charge: M A Gow

Coaching Professionals: Jon Holloway, Clive Maguire

Football is hugely popular at Marlborough and although some fixtures are played in the Michaelmas term along with an internal House Match League,  Lent is the main term for competitive matches against other schools.

Facilities

Marlborough has seven football pitches.

Matches, Competitions and Events

12 teams from the Remove upwards represent the College on a regular basis on Saturday afternoons and long standing fixtures include Eton, Winchester, Bradfield and Charterhouse.

Traditionally the 1st XI has been known as "the Granham Casuals" or "Grannies" and since 2007 they have represented the College in the Mercian League, a regional competition which culminates in a final held at Ludlow FC.

The College has very close coaching links to Swindon Town F C and two professionals from the Club Jon Holloway and Clive Maguire have been instrumental in the growth and success of football at Marlborough.

They have also provided invaluable support and guidance on recent tours to Barcelona, Singapore and Malaysia as well as our regular trips to Sweden to compete in the Gothia Youth World Cup which is held annually in Gothenburg.

Planning is underway for a tour to Madrid in April 2014.

After leaving Marlborough many old boys continue to play football and the annual fixture against the Old Marlburians is always a good occasion. Since 2010 the OMs have joined the Arthurian League, a competition between teams from the alumni of leading independent schools.
