Mistress in Charge: F O‚ÄôSullivan

Marlborough Polo has been lucky over the past year achieving notable success with our teams in both arena and field. By the nature of the game we are a minor sport but aim to be able to offer it for both enjoyment and also at a high level. It crosses the age range and there is a very supportive club feel to the groups. Many go on to enjoy the game later at university and for pleasure.

Polo is on offer to anyone who has previous riding experience and we are lucky to be able to go to Druid's Lodge Polo Club, near Stonehenge, where we have lessons with Giles Ormerod. In the second half of the Michaelmas Term we offer a beginner's polo course to newcomers. From the Lent Term on, pupils are divided between novice and advanced with some of the advanced being able to opt for both sessions for continued practice.

Ponies are provided for each lesson by Druids but pupils may opt to bring their own should they prefer. We wish to encourage those doing it at a higher level to take advantage of the arena training in the Lent Term as well as the Summer and the standard of pony offered by Druid's encourages this at a time when their own ponies might be off.

Matches, Competitions and Events

We play interschool matches, including Eton, Wellington, Millfield, Harrow, Stowe and Radley and also played against a military team . We are members of the Schools and Universities Polo Association taking part in their tournaments and have been part of their league. This last year we won the under 16s school championship and were runners up in the Senior schools league championship. Two pupils were chosen this Summer to represent England for SUPA schools.

Matches take place over the country and so parents are often very much involved and their support is very good and much appreciated. We are proud of the growing number of old Marlburians continuing in the sport at a significant level.
