Martin Sixsmith Talks to the History and Russian Societies
Martin Sixsmith visited the College on Thursday 20 September and lectured in the Ellis Theatre to 100 pupils from the History and Russian Departments. Martin is known to many as the former BBC correspondent in Moscow at the end of the Cold War. Years of experience of living in Moscow and researching Russia has given him unparalelled first hand knowledge to comment observantly, sensitively and accurately about modern Russia. Martin was keen to bring to our attention the enormous force that literature has played in reflecting the contemporary social and political life of Russia. His talk “How Russia’s past has influenced her present” captivated the audience and was followed by 15 minutes of keen questioning from Marlburians. Afterwards, Martin signed copied of his new book, serialised for Radio 4: “Russia – a 1000 year Chronicle of the Wild East.
