Review: Major General Peter Williams
On Thursday 20 November, Major General Peter Williams accepted an invitation to speak to the Politics Society on the War in Bosnia during the 1990s.
Titled as “Looking back on tragedy”, he gave a highly informative and accessible PowerPoint (using mostly his own photographs) outlining the causes, the course and eventual outcome of a war which claimed over 100,000 lives. Speaking eloquently and with authority based on his own experiences having done three operational tours there himself, he was able to weave personal anecdote with historical fact to great effect.
By the end of the evening the pupils had a much better awareness of the first “hot war” in Europe since the end of the Cold War and the origins of present day tensions between Muslims and Christians.
