Review: Amir Darwish

Amir Darwish gave a reading to the Poetry Society on Tuesday 7th February.

He had come for the UK as a refugee from Aleppo during the second Gulf War, and this experience had informed much of his writing.  He gave a writing workshop to the Creative Writing students; then, to a huge audience packed into Adderley, he read from his forthcoming autobiography and a short story, as well as poems about love and loss.

Afterwards, he joined the Poetry Society for supper in New Court Flat, where he was charming, funny and gracious.
