A Royal Return

HRH Princess Eugenie of York (MM 2003-08) was welcomed back to Marlborough College to open the newly refurbished Memorial Hall for pupils on Thursday 28th June 2018

On arrival, Princess Eugenie was welcomed by Mrs Sarah Rose Troughton, Lord-Lieutenant of Wiltshire and Councillor Lisa Farrell, the Mayor of Marlborough. The College is currently celebrating its 175th anniversary and the 50th year of co-education.

Accompanied by the Master, Jonathan Leigh, the Princess then began a tour of the Art School before a visit to her old boarding house, Mill Mead, where she met with pupils and members of the pastoral team. She then re-opened the Memorial Hall, unveiled a commemorative plaque and spoke to those gathered about her memories of Marlborough College.

Following her visit to Marlborough, Princess Eugenie commented:

“Such a lovely day going to see my old school, Marlborough College and opening the newly refurbished Memorial Hall, built to honour the 749 former pupils that lost their lives on the battlefield in WWI. So many happy memories visiting my old art school and house.”

The Memorial Hall will enjoy a public opening during a festival of events next term, leading up to Armistice Day.
