Perfect score in UKMT Challenge

Almost one hundred of Marlborough College’s keenest mathematicians undertook this year’s UKMT Senior Maths Challenge on Tuesday 6th November. The 90-minute multiple choice paper is tackled without a calculator and with the added jeopardy of negative scoring for those whose proposed answers are incorrect.

Ben Place (C1 L6) followed his perfect score in the Lent Term’s Intermediate Maths Challenge with another flawless performance. His score of 125/125 is rare; last year only 117 pupils out of over 80,000 nationwide matched this feat.

Zac Place (CO U6), followed closely on Ben’s heels with an enormously commendable score of 106/125; both brothers have qualified for the first round of the British Maths Olympiad.

Charlie Wright (C2 Hu) and Flora Prideaux (NC Re) scored highest in their respective year groups. Altogether, Marlborough College pupils were awarded six gold, 28 silver, and 29 bronze certificates. I offer my sincere thanks, as ever, to Mr McNally whose experience and attention to detail allowed this annual event to run smoothly.
