Review: Advanced Pupils’ Recital
The regular Advanced Pupils’ Recital, which is usually held in the Goodison Hall, transferred to the Memorial Hall as part of the special ten-day celebration and commemoration in honour of the 749 OMs and the hall itself. We were treated to a classy display of music making where Music Scholars and non-scholars alike performed alongside in what was, at times, a dazzling display of virtuosity.
Support for this concert was significant, and we were able to enjoy the precision of the acoustics once again and that seemed to have a very positive effect on the performers too as they genuinely raised their game to suit the occasion. In effect, the evening was such a success that the decision has now been taken to hold all pupil recitals in the Memorial Hall, leaving the more informal lunchtime concerts for the Goodison Hall. There can be no question that this will continue to offer a splendid opportunity for pupils to perform in a world class acoustic in the heart of Marlborough College.
Hearty congratulations, then, to all who participated, both in this event and in the major donors’ recital that followed, bringing the curtain down on an incredible and memorable festival.
