Southfields’ Sketches: Reflections from the Senior Chaplain

Christmas spirit spilled out of the Chapel following the four services of Lessons and Carols over this past weekend. Parents and pupils alike sang the praises of the Choir in particular and many thanks are due all round for such splendid occasions.

Adam Staines and the Choir worked tirelessly and produced absolutely mystical anthems and carols. Alex Arkwright and his team on trumpets were uplifting components in the hymns. Christopher Burrows was flawless on the organ. The student readers were magnificent, especially due to the efforts of Maria Sandall who offered them all numerous rehearsals. Janneke Blokland offered a homily and the Chapel was beautifully decorated by Judy Bryan, Margaret Hawthorn, Sonia Buxton and Ali Pick. Will Finlay was the usual bedrock of logistical and organisational support. And thanks are due to all the parents who made their various ‘treks’ in from afar.

Members of the College community are warmly invited to Chapel on Christmas Day. I will be officiating over and offering a Children’s Talk at a Family Eucharist at 11.00 am on Tuesday 25th December. This will be followed by a Drinks Reception in the Adderley at Noon.

Please do plan to attend! We will sing some amazing hymns and celebrate Christmas Day the traditional way.

It has been a magnificent and hugely productive term. A much-deserved and long break is forthcoming!

Happy Christmas to everyone and safe travels.
