Pre-season Netball review
It’s been a busy start to the new year for the College’s netballers, with over 35 girls returning for two busy days of pre-season preparations.
Training began on Monday morning under the watchful eye of the Athletic Development team who carried out physical profiling including the much anticipated 30-15 fitness test. Well done to Daisy Pank (MM Re) and Scarlett Thompson (MM U6) who were particularly impressive here. Following a wall work session with Mrs Watt, the squads travelled to Dauntsey’s School for training fixtures. This proved a valuable chance to build towards match fitness and to test numerous combinations at this early stage. Lucia Harrison (IH Sh) shone for the U14s, Tilly Mobley (MO Re) proved vital for the U15s and Ella Warner (MM Hu) shot well for the 1st VII.
After a good night’s sleep in Dancy House, Tuesday began with a specialist shooting clinic. Next came a court session focused on executing footwork patterns under fatigue; this tested the girls cognitively as much as physically. Afternoon internal match play on Fox’s Bridge was of good quality and in beautiful sunshine which helped to keep spirits high. Pre-season was then brought to a conclusion with a recovery foam roll and yoga session to ease many aching muscles.
Attention now turns to our opening fixture weekend, this Saturday 12th January with matches against Clifton College, Malvern St. James, Monkton Combe and Holyport College. With 18 teams in action, there will be almost 200 girls taking to the courts, some for the first time in their Marlborough careers. The 1st VII, U16A and U14A squads also continue to prepare for the Regional Schools Finals in Bournemouth on Saturday 26th January.
Good luck to all teams for the upcoming season and a sincere thank you to the Beaks who help to facilitate such a positive and extensive netball programme throughout the College.
