Review: Beginners and Intermediate Concert
The inaugural Beginners and Intermediate Concert scheduled for Wednesday 13 February was so popular amongst performers eager to display their considerable talents that in the end, we had to split the concert over two nights (Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th February).
They were most encouraging and uplifting occasions revealing a wealth of hidden talent across the board, the success of which will mean this will now become a termly fixture and one to which we can very much look forward.
One might have assumed that in making an event of this nature a slightly more formal presentation, i.e. an evening performance under the lights to a full Goodison Hall, the less seasoned performer might have been somewhat fazed – not a bit of it. Each and every one of them rose quite splendidly to the occasion and oddly seemed more at ease than during the more informal Thursday lunchtime concerts.
There were many highlights, but perhaps one aspect of the occasion which was worthy of special mention was the three presentations of GCSE coursework compositions by Ben Farley (BH Hu), Minnie Feather (MM Hu) and Rose Olver (EL Hu). These were an absolute delight and beautifully played by Mr Scott, Miss Toomer and, in the case of Rose Olver’s, including herself, which offered a truly collaborative flavour.
Congratulations, then, to all concerned and indeed, to our precious visiting music teachers who were behind the preparation which, once again, revealed that music is in very good heart at Marlborough.
