World Book Day
Knives and forks at the ready – it’s World Book Day on Thursday 7th March, and here at Marlborough College that means it’s time for the delicious, international World Book Day buffet! The Library, in partnership with the Modern Languages department, are laying on a delicious spread of foods from around the world, including borscht, strudel, falafel and, the centre-piece, a giant croque-en-bouche tower of profiteroles and caramel!
It’s not all about the food though: pupils will also be able to explore books by an exciting range of international authors from Anton Chekhov to Haruki Murakami. The buffet is a great opportunity to visit the library and choose some books from our North Face Reading Challenge, a collection of titles chosen by the Modern Languages teachers. There’s a mix of classic and contemporary fiction, both in translation and in the original languages, as well as non-fiction works which explore countries and cultures in more depth.
You can find out more about the North Face Challenge, and download the complete reading list here. The library will have plenty of copies of all the North Face books ready to be browsed and borrowed, as well as lots of other great books from around the world. We’re ready to make some recommendations!
As well as all this, there’s quizzes and prizes galore: for upper school it’s Mr Brown’s fiendish Modern Languages quiz, and for lower school, the library will be testing their translation skills and flag knowledge, with Easter eggs to be won, and book vouchers for everyone!
We’re looking forward to welcoming lots of Marlburians to the library for good food, bookish fun, and a celebration of international languages and literature – keep an eye on our Twitter page for photos!
