Marlborough College’s senior rugby players are currently taking part in a pre-season training camp in France.
The senior squad left Marlborough on Friday and will spend five days away, under the guidance of Head of Rugby, Terry Gilmour, and other rugby coaching staff. The highlight of the 2018 season came as the XV reached the semi-finals of the National Schools cup, played at Allianz Park.
“We have 27 boys heading down to Tignes before we move on from there to play some games. What was fortunate about last year is that we put a lot of boys on the pitch who were in the Lower Sixth. We have quite a talented Colts group coming through as well and they are now of course part of the Sixth Form group.”
Gilmour continued: “As always we work on creating standards to cope with a fixture list as strong as ours. We want to make sure we compete and execute to the greatest levels we can at schoolboy level. This year we’d love to reach a final at Twickenham in the Schools Cup and likewise have a successful year in terms of regular fixtures.”
He added: “The message to the players a year ago was to leave the shirt in a better place. We want to continue that theme, whether on or off the pitch, in terms of standards and the attitude of the boys is so important.”
Ed Abbott (C2 U6) has been named Captain of Rugby, with Christian Freeman (SU U6) as vice-captain.
