Prep School Pupils Get Creative

On Sunday 15th September the Art Department hosted Year 8 pupils from 11 prep schools. The day centred around creating observational and expressive work inspired by the current exhibition on display in the Mount House Gallery.

Pupils began with brainstorming ideas and information on the artist Richard Shirley Smith while getting to know, first hand, his paintings, collages and engravings. From this platform gold and silver ink drawings on black card were created by each in preparation for a larger scale sustained work based on symbolic still life of objects chosen by each.

The day raced by with much learning within this feast of creativity. The day concluded with a visit by Richard Shirley Smith who spoke warmly of each pupils’ work particularly their focus, skill and attention to detail.
