Mound Trust Annual Lecture

The 2019 Marlborough Mound Trust Annual Lecture will be held in the Ellis Theatre at Marlborough College  on Monday 9th September (8pm).

This year’s lecture ‘Actors in the Landscape’ will be given by Professor Martin Carver and focus on monumental mounds as champions of their time.

About the speaker: Martin Carver is emeritus professor of Archaeology at the University of York where he has taught since 1986. During 45 years of fieldwork he has conducted campaigns in Britain, Italy and Algeria, including research and excavation on the Anglo-Saxon burial mounds at Sutton Hoo, in Scotland at the Pictish monastery at Portmahomack and is currently working with Italian colleagues on transition in Sicily. His latest books are The Sutton Hoo Story. Encounters with early England (Boydell, 2017) and Formative Britain (Routledge, March 2019).
