Archaeological Outreach

Rosie Sykes (EL U6) and Bella Brown (MM L6) are here seen at the bottom of the archaeological investigative trench currently being excavated by Sixth Form pupils on Wednesday Outreach afternoons.

With expert guidance from Tony Roberts of Archeoscan and under the watchful gaze of Mr Blossom of the College’s History Department, the team of five pupils has made rapid progress to uncover a substantial stretch of the footings (8 to 9 feet wide) of the former Norman Royal Castle which stood in the Wilderness from 12th to 15th century. The dig can easily be seen from footpaths south of Leaf Block.
