Summer School and School of English Culture
Marlborough College Summer School and School of English and Culture cancelled for 2020
In the interests of the wellbeing of our guests, staff and the local community, it is with a heavy heart that the decision has been taken to cancel this year’s Summer School and School of English and Culture. Clearly, this is very disappointing for all concerned.
John Blake, Director of Marlborough College Enterprise Ltd., said: ‘It is felt that we could not make either event work this year if we are restricted by social distancing measures. Also, with more than 50% of our Summer School customers aged over 60, it would be irresponsible of us to gather so many potentially vulnerable customers together in one place; be it a classroom, Norwood Hall, marquee or our entertainment venues.’
Master of Marlborough College, Louise Moelwyn-Hughes, added: ‘ Much thought has been given to offering an online Summer School. However, the feeling is that this would go against the interactive and immersive nature of our courses and customers would miss out on the very things that make MCSS and MCSEC what they are, and which we work so hard to retain – a chance to learn new skills in a friendly, cooperative, engaging and joyous atmosphere. However, we will be offering a free online enrichment programme for our past and present School of English and Culture students.’
We hope to welcome as many people who booked this year as possible to Marlborough College in 2021, so have reserved their places for Summer School 2021 and carried their total booking over. They can, of course, request a full refund if they prefer. It is the College’s intention to run an identical Summer School programme next year with the same courses, accommodation and entertainment.
The provisional dates for Summer School 2021 are 11th July to 7th August. Tickets will go on sale for the 2021 events on 1st September.
