The Marlborough College community came together on Saturday to celebrate sport across the ages as part of this year’s Festival of Sport.
The day began with a Prep School Festival with pupils, coaches and parents from Caldicott, Chafyn Grove, Cheam, Farleigh, Lambrook and Pinewood visiting as part of the U9 rugby, hockey and football festival for a morning of coaching taster sessions with Marlborough coaching staff.
Marlburians had their chance on the big stage with no less than 40 fixtures taking place on the day with opposition including Bradfield College, Cheltenham College, Lord Wandsworth College, St Mary’s Calne and St Edward’s (Oxford).
There was a nostalgic feel to the afternoon, with over 100 Old Marlburians returning to familiar surroundings – many of whom set foot on the pitches and courts once again to take part in football, mixed hockey, rugby, shooting and squash matches.
Rebe Horton, Director of Sport, commented: ‘The Festival of Sport is always a landmark occasion in our sporting calendar and seeing the pitches full with competitors young and old was a sight to behold.
‘I must thank everyone who took part – from pupils, parents and visiting coaches as well as our own coaching staff for putting on such engaging sessions. We were blessed with fantastic weather that helped set the tone for a wonderful atmosphere out on the pitches, with competition and participation right at the top of our sporting agenda.
‘We are already looking forward to and planning for 2022, which we hope will inspire and engage sportsmen and women across the generations.’
