Safe Drive, Stay Alive

Safe Drive, Stay Alive

Wednesday 24th November 2021

After a year hiatus, we welcomed the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service back to deliver their ‘Safe Drive, Stay Alive’ roadshow in the Memorial Hall on Tuesday 23rd November.

The College welcomed Year 12 pupils from St. John’s Marlborough to the roadshow in the early afternoon before our Upper School attended the same talk later in the day.

The scheme, co-ordinated by Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, aims to change the perception about safety behind the wheel of an impressionable age group at a time in their life when the excitement of independence can overtake good judgement.

Through powerful personal testimony and dramatic video footage pupils saw first-hand the tragedy and suffering caused by road traffic collisions. Pupils were visibly affected as a police officer, firefighter, a bereaved father and an accident victim recounted their heartbreaking personal stories. These vivid accounts from people who have experienced the horror of a road traffic collision were incredibly powerful; the message being, don’t think this cannot happen to you because it really can.

The roadshow aims to encourage young drivers to think before they drive, to ignore their mobile phone whilst driving and to always drive safely.

We are very grateful to the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service for attending the College to deliver this vitally important roadshow.
