Old Marlburian Reading Prize

Saturday 4th December 2021

On Wednesday 24th November 2021, Thomas de S won the Old Marlburian Reading Prize for his wonderful performance of Slough by Sir John Betjeman (B2 1920–25).

To enter this year’s competition, all Shell pupils researched the work of one of the many Old Marlburian writers with their Form beaks and then chose a piece of drama, poetry or a prose extract to recite from memory. Each Form selected a winner to perform in the final, which was held in the Memorial Hall.

This year’s competition was adjudicated by the Deputy Head (Pastoral) Mr Ed Nightingale, who was very impressed by the high quality of the reading, and the clear and passionate delivery of each piece.

Well done to all the performers especially those who were Highly Commended: Jecca L-T, Neil S, Jasmine P, Charlie A-S, Millie A and Lilli E.

A reading of the winning piece – filmed in Chapel – can be viewed below.
