We are delighted to announce the appointment of Susan Wessels to the post of Second Master from September 2022.
Susan is currently Senior Deputy Head at Framlingham College, Suffolk. Educated in her native South Africa, she studied Sport & Exercise Technology before later completing her MA in Educational Leadership and Management.
Prior to her teaching career, Susan was an international sportswoman. She played 146 times for the South Africa women’s hockey team and has competed at the highest level including at two Olympic Games, the second at Athens in 2004 as South Africa’s Captain.
Her teaching career began in 2004 at The Kings’ School, Canterbury and, during her eight years there, she was a Housemistress, taught Physical Education and Geography and was Head of Girls’ Games. Susan moved to Framlingham College in 2011 as Senior Deputy Head and currently serves as the Governor for Welfare at St John’s College School, Cambridge.
Susan will be moving to Marlborough with her partner, Alaster, and three children, Felix, Florence and Frederick.
Susan said: ‘I am absolutely thrilled to be taking up this role as Second Master and joining the Marlborough College community. I am very much looking forward to working with the Master and the College community to ensure that Marlborough retains its position as the UK’s leading co-educational full boarding school.’
