John Holley (C1 2003-08) returned to Marlborough on Friday 4th March to give this year’s Kempson Rosedale Enterprise Trust lecture, having recently completed one of the world’s toughest competitions – Ironman Finland.
John gave a fascinating insight into the world of triathlons and talked about the gruelling training regime required to take on Ironman Finland. He offered an insight into the race which included a 2.5 mile swim, a gruelling 112 mile bike ride and a 26 mile marathon.
He also brought along his triathlon bike, with the benefits of using a specialised aerodynamic frame helping to buy an all-important time advantage.
John closed the talk by outlining his next challenge – to swim between islands in the Sicily Isles!
The Kempson Rosedale Enterprise Trust provides assistance to young people from Marlborough schools to do inspiring activities which will enrich their lives. The Trust was established in memory of EGH “G” Kempson and Rupert Rosedale who were local residents and teachers. The Trust is funded by voluntary donations from people who are inspired by G and Rupert, and who wish to ensure a continued legacy for the young people at St John’s Marlborough and Marlborough College.
