Netballers Win Tournament

Wednesday 2nd March 2022

The 1st VII Netball were thrilled to come away victorious from the Bradfield College Invitational 1st VII Tournament on Saturday 26th February.

Following the half-term break and a busy week of mock examinations for the Upper Sixth, the girls started brightly and made a strong start to the day, remaining unbeaten in the group stage to secure a quarter-final spot. A competitive encounter saw Marlborough win through to the semi-finals where they faced host school Bradfield. This proved an excellent match-up, with Marlborough only beginning to pull away in the second half to seal an 18-8 win. The final against Wellington provided an opportunity for the girls to go one better than they did at the Seaford College Invitational, and so it proved as they emerged 18-13 winners.

Head of Netball, Sophie Bingham, commented: “It proved to be an excellent tournament and I was delighted to see the girls come away winners at the end of an enjoyable day.

“Iona G (L6) had excellent impact at WD off the bench, whilst Eloise B (L6) came away with three consecutive match-winning interceptions off their centre pass. Scarlet T (U6) was an outstanding target for us throughout the afternoon at GS, and Tallulah B (U6) led the girls brilliantly as captain.”

She added: “Our thanks go to Bradfield College for hosting an excellent tournament, and to the parents who came and cheered us on. The girls now look forward to our remaining fixtures of the season that include Canford, Kingswood and Millfield.
