As Girls’ Cricket continues to flourish in schools, Marlborough has been privileged to host two Junior Girls’ Cricket Events in the last fortnight.
On Friday 13th May we welcomed no fewer than eight prep schools and seven local primary schools to the U10 & U11 Coaching Experience & Taster Day. The event was led by College Cricket Professional Mark Alleyne MBE (former Gloucestershire CCC & England) and Charlotte Edwards CBE (former England Women’s Captain & current Southern Vipers & Southern Brave Coach). With the assistance of several staff and pupils, a lot of enjoyment was had and it proved an opportunity for the youngsters to hone their skills and develop their passion for the game.
A week later on Friday 20th May, the College hosted the School Notices U13 National Championships sponsored by JM Finn and Savills. With 16 schools in attendance the quality of cricket was high which impressed the specialist guest coach, England opening batter Tammy Beaumont. The girls showed stoicism to play through some early drizzle, but as the sun came out, it conveyed a memorable scene with eight matches being played simultaneously across the beautiful grounds. A high-quality encounter saw Crossfields crowned the inaugural U13 Girls champions defeating Daneshill in the final.
Both days were a fantastic opportunity to showcase the growth and development of Girls’ Cricket at Marlborough.
