The Everest Lecture

Friday 1st July 2022

This year, for our Everest lecture, we were extremely fortunate to have OM, Bella Somerset (MM 2004-09), speak to us.

Bella is a co-founder of Somercecil, a team running a range of experiences including wellbeing retreats and company treks in the Lake District and the Nepalese Himalayas. Somercecil focuses on connecting people offline, encouraging wellbeing and nourishing your mind and body in scenic and natural environments.

Bella summed up this philosophy in her talk today which was incredibly profound and genuine. She shared with us her healing journey of spirituality and exploration which has led her to where she is now – a trained mountain leader, yoga instructor and health coach. We practised visualisation and saw the steps of a recovery journey. Fear, stress, and mindfulness are some examples of the topics we gained useful insight on today. Bella was excellent in conveying the importance of balance and escaping the pressures of everyday life to really connect with yourself, other people, and the world around you.

Wellbeing is an extremely important topic, which is being discussed a lot currently and Bella offered a fresh perspective on this, helping us to understand how we can look after ourselves and promote positivity.

On behalf of all staff and pupils, we would like to offer our sincere thanks to Bella for taking the time to speak to us and we hope we can hear from her again in the future.
