Many congratulations to Sophie H who won gold for Great Britain in the Junior Mixed Pairs at the Cyprus European Championships. The win means that Sophie and her shooting partner are European Champions in the discipline.
And what a tense final it was! After Great Britain went up 4-0, Slovakia brought it back to 4-4, before Great Britain held their nerve to take it to 6-4 and clinch gold. Sophie fired the last two shots of the final which shooters call the ‘golden hit’ which means it has become mathematically impossible for the other team to win.
Sophie was completely focused on her game and she said: “The funny thing was that I had no idea we had won! I got told to stop shooting and I wondered why until someone told me that we had won and even then I had to look at the scoreboard and work it out!”
Now it’s back to training in preparation for the World Championships which will be taking place in a month’s time in Croatia.
We will be supporting Sophie and the whole of the Great Britain team all the way.
