Service of Remembrance 2022

Monday 14th November 2022

Marlborough College held a Service of Remembrance on Sunday 13th November, commemorating all those who lost their lives in conflict.

We came together to remember specifically all Old Marlburians who have fought and fallen, including the 749 of our number who died in The Great War, the 417 who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the Second World War, and OMs who have died serving their country more recently. We remember them all and the sacrifice they made to secure and protect our freedom.

A moving Chapel service took place at 10.45am, including an address by The Reverend Tim Novis, College Chaplain. Wreaths were laid at the High Altar and at the Remembrance Assembly taking place concurrently in the Memorial Hall. The Reading from The Book of Wisdom was given by Senior Prefect, Woody W (U6) and the Intercessions were led by Jack H-H (U6), CCF Regimental Sergeant Major.

The Sermon was delivered by WO1 (RSM) Bate SJ (Late GREN GDS).

The CCF provided a party of 29 Upper Sixth cadets in Chapel and an Honour Guard of some 80 Hundred cadets that paraded in Court.

The Last Post and Reveille was sounded in Chapel by Jack H-S (L6), in the Memorial Hall by Theo W-B (Re) and by Jemima C (Sh) at a local service in St George’s Church, Preshute.
Lower Sixth cadets, together with Lt Simon Flatres (Head of Lower Sixth CCF) attended the Marlborough Town Remembrance Parade. And those members of the Lower Sixth who were not in town were present in Chapel.

Following the Service, the CCF hosted a Remembrance lunch in the Adderley for senior cadets and their families to end a very special day in the College calendar.
