In the lead up to exeat, Marlburians have taken part in a total of 122 fixtures across a wide range of sports. The latest Sports Report takes a look back at sporting highlights from the last six days…

Saturday 29th April was a bumper occasion for Marlborough sport with 70 fixtures played across a competitive afternoon. There was a home athletics meeting for eight teams across the age-groups, whilst there was also senior representation at the Harrow School at the Guy Butler Trophy, where George M broke the Guy Butler meet Javelin Record.

Highlights from a busy Saturday of cricket saw a big win for the Girls’ XI against Westonbirt with Jemima C and Olivia M dominating the batting. Boys’ XI captain Joe F topped scored with 73 in a dramatic tie against Wellington, whilst Ludo C hit 71 for the Colts 1. Mentions also go to Freddie P (4th XI) and Tommy L (JC1) who both scored 67. Top bowling performances came from James F (Colts 1, 4-8), Ollie S (JC2, 4-25) and Felix B (Y5, 3-10). There was also a brace of T20 fixtures on Tuesday with the XI beating Pangbourne by 107 runs in the HMC T20 Cup 2nd round and the Colts 1 securing a thrilling 3-run win over Eton with Seb W holding his nerve bowling the final over.

In tennis, there were 25 fixtures on Saturday against Wellington College, Sherborne Girls and Cheltenham Ladies’ College. Marlburians past and present enjoy competing against each other. Experience told over youth as the OMs won but a special shout out to Rory S and Alex C for winning their match-ups and to Ollie B for another impressive showing. It was also great to see returning Marlburians who were keen to hear about school news and reminisce over their time at the College.

There were some strong performances from the girls in their swimming match at the Downe House Relay Invitational this week (above). The junior girls finished third in their medley relay with a time of 2:25.7 featuring Helena C, Saffy R, Clarendon H-T, and Kate H. The senior girls finished second in the free relay with contributions from Nina B, Jaz, Carina H, Poppy M and Beth P helping the girls finish in fourth place overall.

Thursday saw a full programme of matches before the exeat weekend, with Marlborough hosting the Nitro Athletics meeting. In cricket, there were five victories out of 14 matches in what is annually the toughest block fixture of the term against Eton. Congratulations to the XI, 3rd XI, Colts 1, JC3 & JC4 on impressive wins. Yusuf K scored 60 & Max D took 3-19 in the XI’s victory over Eton.

Thursday’s action also saw 18 tennis matches with six wins from seven matches for the boys against St Edward’s Oxford (below).
