This year’s Higher Education and Gap Year Fair for the Lower Sixth was held on Monday 12th June in the marquee in Court. Pupils had the chance to discover more about a range of university, gap year and volunteer options as they prepare to enter their final year at Marlborough. Here are views of two pupils following what was as always an informative and popular event.
Charlotte G
“There was a wide range of universities, with popular choices amongst Marlburians such as the Universities of Exeter, Bristol and Durham, and some lesser known institutions such as universities outside of England and multiple agricultural schools. Those university representatives that I spoke with, both Russell Group and non-Russell Group, were incredibly useful in giving me a taste of their respective universities. This gave me more in-depth knowledge to help me make a more informed choice when the time comes to make my final decision. There were also plenty of gap year options, from cooking courses to volunteering in different continents to a ski instructor course in Canada, which has really improved my knowledge of what my gap year could be. Such options are extremely enticing and could be tailored to whatever course I wanted to study, meaning I could spend my gap year travelling to new places whilst preparing for my university course.”

Henry S
“The variety of choices at the fair was extremely diverse. Going into the event, I had preconceptions about certain universities and had plans on where I wanted to go. However, visiting a great number of stands at the event was extremely eye opening. For example, I had not previously considered any foreign universities, or the potential of apprenticeships and degree apprenticeships, all of which have now opened up for me. I felt extremely comforted by the flexibility that universities offered within their courses and I believe I now have the information I need to make an informed decision on my future.”
