European Day of Languages

Tuesday 26th September 2023

Today, European Day of Languages, we celebrate the range and diversity of languages offered at Marlborough as showcased in our Modern Languages video.

The study of Modern Languages at Marlborough enables pupils to engage with and appreciate linguistic and cultural difference. Our Modern Languages Department is well known for its excellent breadth: French, German, Italian, Mandarin, Russian and Spanish are all taught, from beginner to university entrance level.

Study visits (pictured above: Remove trip to Paris) and exchanges take place in both the Lower and Upper Schools in all the six main languages, and we have strong links with partner schools in France, Luxembourg, Germany, China and Spain. Other partnerships see our pupils using their skills to support the teaching of languages in local schools in Wiltshire, and we enjoy a Spanish ‘virtual exchange’ with our sister school, Marlborough College Malaysia.
