Festival of Sport

Monday 16th October 2023

The Marlborough College community came together on Saturday 7th October to celebrate sport across the ages as part of this year’s Festival of Sport.

The day began with a Prep School Festival with pupils, coaches and parents from Caldicott, Farleigh, Lambrook, The Oratory and Summer Fields visiting as part of the U9 rugby, hockey and football festival for a morning of coaching taster sessions with Marlborough coaching staff.

Marlburians had their chance on the big stage with over 45 fixtures taking place on the day and opposition included Bradfield College, Eton College and Lord Wandsworth College.

There was a nostalgic feel to the afternoon, with over 50 Old Marlburians returning to familiar surroundings – many of whom set foot on the pitches and courts once again to take part in football, mixed hockey, rugby, shooting and squash matches.

Rebe Horton, Director of Sport, commented: “The Festival of Sport is always a landmark occasion in our sporting calendar and it was great to see the pitches full with competitors both young and old.

“I must thank everyone who took part – from pupils, parents and visiting coaches – as well as our own coaching staff for putting on such engaging sessions. As seems to be the case most years, the sun shone and the good weather helped set the tone for a wonderful atmosphere, with competition and participation right at the top of our sporting agenda.”
