A Trip to Christie’s

Friday 8th December 2023

Earlier this week, 30 Upper Sixth art historians had a wonderful opportunity to view the operations of Christie’s auction house on the eve of its major Classic Art sale.

Pupils were given privileged access to the rooms where works are assessed, and enjoyed talks from three of the experts about some of the works presented for sale. Among the extraordinary things they saw close to hand were paintings by Canaletto, Sirani, Picasso, and De Chirico, sculpture by Giambologna and an early copyist of Bernini, and a superb collection of etchings by Rembrandt.

Many thanks to our friends at Christie’s who made it all possible.
