Evensong at Oxford

Friday 23rd February 2024

On the Wednesday before half-term, the Compline Choir had the wonderful opportunity to sing a service of Evensong alongside the Chapel Choir of The Queen’s College, Oxford.

The musical menu included evening canticles by Stanford, and Rheinberger’s sublime six-part motet, Abendlied. After an exciting and detailed rehearsal with Director of Music, Professor Owen Rees, the pupils had the opportunity to have a private tour of the College, including a visit to the College Library and the College Gardens. Time ran on, and soon it was time to put on cassocks and form Decani and Cantoris lines outside the Chapel doors in preparation for processing into the Chapel for the service.

No doubt, the experience gave so much encouragement to the pupils, and will have opened their eyes to both musical and academic inspirations.
