Rugby Achievements

Tuesday 20th February 2024

It has been a strong start to 2024 for Marlborough College rugby with a range of successes to reflect on.
The New Year began with a first senior international call-up for Archie Griffin (C3 2014-19) of Bath Rugby.

The prop was a regular for the XV at Marlborough throughout the 2017 and 2018 seasons, and after completing his A levels in the summer of 2019 he took up a professional contract offer with Bath. He was then named in the Wales squad for this year’s Six Nations campaign and he made his debut off the bench at Twickenham against England on Saturday 10th February.

Head of Rugby, Terry Gilmour, commented: “Congratulations to Archie on earning his first cap for Wales Rugby Union. It is a remarkable achievement and a testament to his talent, resilience and hard work. This is undoubtedly a moment of immense pride for Archie, his family and everyone associated with rugby here at Marlborough.”

Further success followed at the weekend with two current Marlborough pupils helping Bath U18s become champions of England. Ed E and James M have both been regulars for Bath this season at age-group level and on Sunday, they both started for Bath in their 34-33 win over Northampton Saints in the Premiership Rugby Academy U18 Final.

Rosslyn Park National Schools 7s

Both players are expected to feature for Marlborough next month at the Rosslyn Park HSBC National Schools 7s – the world’s largest school rugby tournament. Parents, OMs and supporters are invited to attend the Marlborough marquee throughout the event, which will include hospitality and a base for the day, adjacent to the main pitch RE1.

The 1st VII will feature on Monday 18th March, the Yearlings on Tuesday 19th March and Colts on Wednesday 20th March.
