Songs from the Shows

Friday 3rd May 2024

As we head into another busy series of concerts before the exam season takes a grip, it is a continued pleasure to witness the enormous breadth and depth of musical talent on display from all areas of the Music Department.

The Singing Department remains hugely active and engaged, be that in a solo or ensemble capacity, and such is the popularity of the ‘Songs from the Shows’ concert, it takes two full evening recitals in order to accommodate all the pupils that wish to perform. It’s a popular musical medium, and the variety of music in both recitals ranged from some of the absolute classics (The Wizard of Oz, South Pacific and Porgy and Bess) to less well-known, but equally absorbing repertoire (Richmond’s Mean Girls).

With such a massive repertoire list to navigate, this was a Herculean effort from the team of accompanists – special praise to Miss Toomer, Mr Butterfield and Mr Brown – without whom these evenings would not be possible.

All performances deserve a mention and there was much to celebrate (including some encouraging performances from the Shell), but perhaps on this occasion it would be appropriate to acknowledge and thank our Upper Sixth singers Josh D, Edo Q, Nina B, Clemmie B, Mimi E, Lottie V, Milly J, Grace M, Charlotte G, and Daisy D, many of whom have contributed so much to music at Marlborough during their College careers.

We wish them well and bravo all.
