Many congratulations to Morris, who won the Shell House Debating Final on Thursday 13th November, with Littlefield as runners-up. The finalists debated the motion ‘This House believes that social media should be illegal for under-16s.’
Both teams delivered highly impressive speeches. Littlefield argued persuasively about the negative side-effects of social media, including inattentiveness and cyberbullying, while Morris presented strong points on the benefits of connectivity and the potential for enhanced creativity.
Our judges, Arthur D and Cosima J from the Upper School Debating Society, praised Morris’s clear communication and sharp Points of Information, as well as Littlefield’s use of strong facts and confident rebuttals.
A special well done to Tara L, who was awarded Best Speaker for her clear delivery, effective use of key evidence, and well-developed arguments.
All Houses took part in the heats, with Elmhurst, Morris, Littlefield, and C3 competing in the semi-finals before half-term. It was fantastic to see such high-quality debating across the board, and exciting to witness the emergence of Marlborough College’s future debating talent.
