There have been some exceptional individual, house and College-wide charity initiatives over the past few months, raising an amazing £15,400 for 12 important causes.
Even before the new school year began, during the summer break, Elora L and Rahul J were raising £2,725 for ARC, Zimbabwe by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro supported by OM Danielle Levy (MM 2020-25).
On World Mental Health Day, the Prefects organised a ‘wear something yellow’ day which raised £700 for Papyrus, a UK-based mental health charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide among young people.
During Remembrance, C3 and Mill Mead completed their traditional 5km Poppy Run raising £3,575 for the Royal British Legion and the two houses combined again to raise £600 from a charity breakfast for the Youth Centre in Marlborough, another project they support annually.
The annual Summerfield Bar raised £600 for the Down’s Syndrome Association and C1 raised £800 for The Brain Tumour Charity.
In the final weeks of term, our Christmas events provided a perfect opportunity for generously thinking of others. Christmas jumper day raised £200 for Save the Children; and Morris delivered Christmas Lollipops to order raising £400 for Mary’s Meals who provide a lifeline for hungry children and give them the chance to gain an education.
Staff, their families and OMs are also to be applauded for their charitable activities. The Exams Office organised a staff coffee morning for MacMillian Cancer Support; the step-daughter of Sean Clements from the Estates Team donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust; and the son of Yohan Clement from Catering is running 2km a day, every day in December to raise money for Cancer Research UK. OM Charlie Muller (C1 2020-25) has been fundraising and raising awareness for Muscular Dystrophy UK and Movember.
We are enormously grateful to everyone who contributed to the retiring collections at our Christmas Carol Services. These raised an incredible £5,800 which will be split between the following very worthy causes: EDCLUB, Team Talk, Thriving Through Venture and Mary’s Meals.
We extend our congratulations and thanks to everyone who led activities, participated in them or supported and gave money. Marlborough has a rich philanthropic tradition and we are proud that a sense of giving and of looking to make a difference is so strongly felt by our whole community.
