MUN Conference at Wycombe Abbey

Tuesday 27th January 2026

On Friday 16th of January, Marlborough College’s Lower Sixth Model United Nations team attended a two-day conference hosted by Wycombe Abbey. This was the team’s second conference, providing them with a valuable opportunity to strengthen their debating skills and grow closer as a group.

The first day opened with lobbying in each committee, where delegates quickly got to work building alliances and gathering support for their resolutions. This was followed by rounds of debating, where every member of the team participated through making speeches and submitting amendments.

The highlight of the evening was the black-tie Highland Ball, where the team enjoyed live music and traditional Scottish dancing. Despite a few unintentional toe-related casualties, it created an atmosphere that helped everyone relax, chat, and enjoy being together.

Day two resumed where the previous day had ended, with more debating and amendments being made to resolutions. The conference also embraced the humorous side of MUN culture, featuring joke resolutions and a lively gossip box filled with anonymous, light-hearted observations that sparked laughter across committees. Still buzzing from the previous night, the team threw themselves into the debates, asking questions, delivering speeches, and contributing throughout the day.

The conference concluded with a closing session that recognising everyone’s hard work and collaboration. By the end, the team had strengthened their public speaking, debating and negotiation skills. Most importantly they deepened their confidence and sense of “team”.
