Italian Department Dinner

Tuesday 3rd February 2026

The Italian Department dinner on Wednesday 28th January was a very enjoyable experience that combined great food with great culture.

The meal included carpaccio as a starter, followed by gnocchette sarde, and finished with a classic tiramisu. Each dish was absolutely delicious and perfectly fitting to celebrate Italian culture.

After the dinner, we enjoyed a fascinating talk from Sandra Romito, from Christie’s, on Italian art through the ages.  Highlighting roughly two artists per century, she mentioned Michelangelo’s David, as well as the works of some of Italy’s most renowned artists such as Tiziano, Botticelli, and Giotto, while also encouraging us to go and see works by Caravaggio, Raffaello, Canaletto and others that are currently on display in London and around the UK.

Pupils from Hundred, Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth were present, and the speaker spoke entirely in Italian, adding a significant and inspirational educational challenge to the evening for us all.
