University and UCAS update

Monday 9th February 2026

We are delighted to celebrate all our Upper Sixth pupils as they continue to receive offers of university places and look ahead to life after Marlborough.

We congratulate our 12 Oxbridge successes and, similarly, our 26 pupils who applied internationally, including the 13 early decision offers received from the likes of Brown University, Boston College, the University of Southern California, Loyola Marymount, Northeastern, Babson and the University of Virginia. In addition, we celebrate two pupils who secured places to read Economics at Bocconi, and others who have received places at IE University Madrid to study subjects ranging from Business and Architecture to Political Science.

I would like to focus here upon UCAS and could spotlight many successes. Of the 252 applications made (1,233 course choices), 84% were to the most competitive and prestigious universities, the ‘Russell Group Plus’. At this very early stage of the offer season, 61% of all course choices have resulted in offers, including from Imperial, King’s College London, UCL, St Andrews, Bath, Durham, Warwick and every other Russell Group university (except LSE who are yet to make offers).

Within this broad statistic are many individual stories. Pre-professional pathways are popular – for example, Medicine, Veterinary and Allied Health applicants – all of whom have received offers across courses ranging from Medicine and Veterinary Medicine to Adult Nursing, Midwifery, Sports Rehabilitation and Human Nutrition. In Engineering, 12 applicants have received early offers from King’s College London, UCL, Edinburgh, Warwick, Bristol, Sheffield, Southampton, Loughborough, Exeter, Newcastle, Nottingham and Glasgow.

We have also seen pleasing success among our four Law applicants, with early offers from Nottingham, Exeter, York, Royal Holloway, Newcastle and Essex. In the Sciences, we were delighted to see an offer this week from Imperial for Biological Sciences. Fourteen pupils have applied to BioChem/Med courses, five to Mathematics and Physics and Statistics, and a further five to single-honours Mathematics, Physics or Astrophysics.

We have 41 pupils opting to study Economics or economics-related degrees, with significant numbers applying for courses in Finance, Accounting, Entrepreneurship and Business Management. 48 have opted to read Politics or International Relations degrees as the buzz around this subject area continues. Ten percent of all pupils have applied for degrees that include studying a language in full or in part. Four pupils have applied for Chinese, continuing our strong tradition in this area. Our Humanities cohort is equally impressive, with no fewer than 40 pupils applying for History or History of Art, and eight applying to study English.

In Music, pupils have received offers to study Music Technology at Surrey, Kingston, Portsmouth and UWE; and impressively, one pupil has been awarded scholarship places at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. In Art, we have four pupils applying to study courses including Fine Art, Silversmithing and Jewellery Design, and Architecture at Edinburgh, Leeds, Glasgow, Bath, Kingston, University of the Art Central St Martins and The Bartlett, University of London. These applications are ongoing.

The Class of 2026 have impressed us and continue to do so. While it is still early in the offer process, almost every pupil is already holding at least one offer. They have clear goals, strong direction, and high aspirations.
