Despite being the shortest term of the year, it is impressive to record that together the Marlborough community has raised over £11,000 from a variety of charitable endeavours in the past few months and broadened awareness for very worthy causes.
There were a number of House charity days where pupils, house staff and families came together to participate, support, and enjoy events organised by pupils for causes close to their hearts.
On Sunday 22nd April, the C3 community came together to help raise funds for Oracle Head and Neck Cancer UK. The day was to support the house’s wonderful Wendy who works on the C3 Domestic team and lost her husband, John Neal, to cancer recently. The house community enjoyed a BBQ lunch on the patio with entertainment, including some magic, the enthusiastic C3 Quintet, stand-up comedy of sorts! and a spirited rendition of C3’s House Song entry. Lunch was followed by their annual 6-a-side footy tournament on the back fields where some hard-fought matches were contested between year groups, staff and parents. The fun afternoon raised an amazing £4,500.

New Court put on a house charity concert in the Goodison Hall on Sunday 1st March with pupils from all year groups performing solos, duets and in ensembles, including a reprise of both the winning House Harmony, and the House Song. Following the concert, everyone was welcomed back to house for tea and cake and, thanks to the generosity of parents and friends, £1,130 was raised for the Teenage Cancer Trust. The charity was chosen my members of the house to whom it has a personal connection.
C2 held a fun racing night that raised £100 for Tearfund; Elmhurst ran a delicious bake sale raising £140 for Hospitality and Hope; Mill Mead’s Remove Social raised £250 for Operation Smile; and Ivy held a Concert and Art Exhibition raising £626 for Natasha’s Foundation and £306 for Team Talk Kenya.
Wider school events saw the Charity Committee raise £800 for Medicin san Frontieres by the sale of bespoke House Hoodies.
In individual endeavours, Bella J took part in the Weatherbys Cup Flat Race at Newbury Racecourse and raised £3,500 for the British Horse Society.

Our thoughts are with Henry H, Felix B, Max B and Luke S who are raising money for Walking With the Wounded (a veterans’ charity) by completing the Devizes to Westminster Canoe Race over the Easter Weekend. We wish them well in reaching their £5,000 target and if you would like to support them in this endeavour you can make a donation on their fundraising page here.

Congratulations to everyone involved in this term’s impressive philanthropic efforts which have supported all these amazing and important causes. We are also very grateful for the generosity of all those who donated.
