Marlborough College Flight School

Friday 27th March 2026

This term has marked the successful launch of Marlborough College Flight School, an exciting new addition to the College’s co-curricular offering. Interest has been exceptionally strong, reflecting a clear appetite among pupils to engage with aviation in a meaningful and hands-on way.

Despite the inevitable challenges posed by British weather, the programme has made excellent progress. Over the course of the term, 18 flights have been completed, with seven pupils now actively working towards their Private Pilot Licence. In addition, six pupils have taken part in introductory flying experiences, offering them a first taste of life in the cockpit.

Several pupils are already demonstrating impressive development. Vigo G, Emilia C, Aubrey M and João F, in particular, have made rapid progress and are approaching the stage where they will begin taking greater control during landing phases; an exciting milestone in any pilot’s training.

Instructors have been consistently complimentary about Marlborough pupils, highlighting both their strong manners and their ability to grasp new concepts quickly. Their progress to date has been excellent, and they have represented the College superbly at the airfield.

Looking ahead, the programme will continue to expand. Next term, I will be introducing a series of ground school lessons designed to prepare pupils for their first written examination, further supporting those on the pathway to gaining their licence.

The Flight School has already proven to be a remarkable opportunity, giving pupils access to an experience that is both challenging and deeply rewarding. It is a privilege to be able to introduce them to the discipline, responsibility and sheer enjoyment of aviation, and the programme is set to go from strength to strength in the terms ahead.
