Vanbrugh: new articles

Thursday 16th April 2026

The next batch of articles in this year’s scholars’ publication move away from Vanbrugh himself and explore the age in which he lived.

Summer W’s exploration of architectural follies to the present day is complemented well by Max C-P’s discussion of the role of mathematics in architecture: both articles seek to impart the influence of Vanbrugh’s age on today’s society.

Paula R S M’s article delves into the birth of probability theory during Vanbrugh’s life, painting a clear picture of the landscape of mathematical innovation at the time. Similarly, Sophia O’s account of astronomy in the time of Vanbrugh brings light to the scientific discovery in this era.

Finally, Zara S-J’s submission brings us back to Vanbrugh himself as an author, whilst exploring the transition in literature in the period in which he was writing.

These articles demonstrate the breadth in which our academic scholars have researched and responded to the wider theme of Vanbrugh and his Time, and we hope you enjoy reading them!

More articles will be published on our website over the rest of this term, at the end of which we will produce a final copy of this impressive pupil publication.
