We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of four linguists in the 2026 Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators.
Hosted by The Queen’s College, University of Oxford, the Anthea Bell Prize is one of the UK’s most prestigious modern language competitions for schools. Named in honour of the acclaimed literary translator Anthea Bell, the prize encourages young linguists to develop their translation skills and appreciation of languages..
This year’s competition attracted more than 25,000 students from across the UK, with over 5,400 entries judged by expert linguists and translators. Against this highly competitive backdrop, we are thrilled that four Marlburians received recognition for their outstanding work:
- Ava H was awarded a Highly Commended in Mandarin Level 4.
- Lewis M received a Commendation in Mandarin Level 4.
- Elodie B and Tati M were both awarded Commendations in Italian Level 4.
These results are a testament to the pupils’ dedication, linguistic talent, and enthusiasm for languages. Translation requires careful attention to meaning, tone, and cultural nuance, and the recognition received by our pupils reflects their ability to meet this challenge with skill and imagination.
